My 100 Word Story

Reader’s Digest holds a writing “competition” in which they ask you to write a 100-word true story about your life. I put competition in quotes because if they like your piece, they’ll publish it – it’s not so much a “first place, second place, so on…” as it is looking for interesting pieces.

Well, I decided to take a stab at it. I’ve been wanting to get more involved in writing, and I thought this was a good opportunity to test the waters. Take a look at my real-life story below, and let me know what you think!

With the pit of my stomach churning like spoiled butter, I took those first fateful steps onto the sweltering hot asphalt. Another day, another feeling of despair, as much despair as any 8 year old could feel. I was the “new girl”. The weird one. The loner. It didn’t help that I ran around catching moths on the soccer field at recess. Then, one of the prettiest girls in my class walked over while her friends watched from behind. I was sure I was about to be made fun of, when suddenly I heard her ask “want to come play?”
